Research Campus MODAL and its partner KI Park hold joint workshop on optimization, data and AI

Research Campus MODAL and its partner KI Park jointly organized the workshop “KI Park meets MODAL” on Friday, 18 September 2026. In the new MODAL offices at FUHUB, MODAL researchers and practitioners from KI Park’s member organisations came together for an afternoon of talks and discussions on mathematical optimization, data analysis and AI adoption. KI Park e.V. is a partner of Research Campus MODAL in its third funding phase and connects the campus with its network of companies and organisations working on AI. The aim Research Campus the partnership is to bring research and industry closer together, so that methods developed at MODAL reach practical application sooner. The afternoon was hosted by Dr. Tim Conrad (MODAL) and Pia Gildein (KI Park). Dr. Florian Schütz (CEO of KI Park) spoke about how KI Park connects companies and research, Prof. Dr. Ralf Borndörfer, Chair of Research Campus MODAL, presented the research campus, and lightning talks from all six MODAL Labs covered the range of work from medicine to energy and mobility. The afternoon was marked by intensive exchange between the researchers who develop methods in modeling, simulation and optimization and the practitioners who apply them. A tour of “Lise”, the supercomputer at the Zuse Institute Berlin, rounded off the day. “We work with KI Park on a regular basis, but an afternoon together in one room is something else. The discussions with KI Park’s members revealed synergies we can now build on in joint projects,” says Dr. Tim Conrad of Research Campus MODAL. MODAL thanks all participants and organizers for a productive afternoon and looks forward to continuing the exchange with KI Park and its members.
