Zuse-Institute Berlin (ZIB) and Ab Ovo Deutschland GmbH, headquartered in Düsseldorf, are happy to announce Ab Ovo’s admittance into the second phase of the BMBF-funded Research Campus MODAL – Mathematical Optimization and Data Analysis Laboratories. Ab Ovo and ZIB will collaborate in research and development within the MobilityLab in the area of logistics.

MODAL is a platform for public-private innovation partnership established by ZIB and Freie Universität Berlin together with 30 partners from industry, including many spin-offs and small and medium-sized companies. All partners contribute staff and other assets to applied research projects.

For over twenty years, Ab Ovo assists their customers with customized solutions to their planning puzzles. One of Ab Ovo’s core principles is to accompany their customers in all phases of a project, from the statement of work up to the challenge of go-live and beyond, ensuring that the solutions are perfect fits to the problems addressed and yield tangible benefits for the customer’s daily operations.

In MODAL’s MobilityLab Ab Ovo’s familiarity with industrial operations meet with ZIB’s expertise in the state of the art in mathematical optimization.

Employing methods from mathematical optimization, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, Ab Ovo and ZIB will design planning systems, which address complex processes in the field of logistics.

Prof. Dr. Ralf Borndörfer (Head of Network Optimization at ZIB) and Mr. Gerd Schmidt (Managing Director of Ab Ovo Deutschland GmbH) are looking forward to Ab Ovo’s and ZIB’s collaboration. Both are happy to answer further questions.

About MobilityLab
The MobilityLab develops data-driven AI methods for the optimization of transportation networks. Spanning over many areas of the transportation sector, the trend to more networked systems has become visible. The more details are integrated, the more complex become data analysis, control and optimization, leading to many unresolved problems. Building upon recent topics such as e-mobility, free flight and digitalization, the MobilityLab seeks to drive innovation by formulating and investigating mathematical key problems. These are the basis for realistic models and efficient algorithms, which evolve from identification, analysis and exploitation of specific problem structures. Since many structures are similar in the world of transportation, results ideally carry over to several applications, and as well to other types of network problems outside transportation
