The Research Campus MODAL team was honored to compete in the finals of the IIF Forecasting Practice Competition, alongside lpiranga, HP, Wayfair, and Maersk. The competition showcased impressive applications of forecasting methods driving real business impact. Congratulations to Wayfair for winning this year’s competition!
Our submission, EnergyLab Prognosis, is a hybrid forecasting system for hourly gas flows, combining mathematical optimization and machine learning. Developed in the EnergyLab at Forschungscampus MODAL, deployed on OGE’s IT infrastructure, and rigorously tested and monitored, the system has outperformed the leading commercial solution. It has improved efficiency and demonstrated greater resilience to disruptions, including the challenges posed by the Russo-Ukrainian war.
